Zusammenfassung

This book reports on the results of archaeological fieldwork in the Brandberg in Namibia. The Brandberg is a high mountain range with an arid climate on the edge of the Namib Desert and numerous traces of prehistoric settlement. The main aim of several years of research in the 1980s was to record the stages of this settlement. At the same time, clues were sought for the chronological classification of the rock paintings, the documentation of which had already been the focus of separate projects for many years. The question of why the mountains, despite their remoteness and inaccessibility, were used as a habitat to such an intensive extent, as evidenced by the rich sources, was also investigated.
