Globalization and the emergence of private universities in Sub-Saharan Africa

Abstract

The writer examines the rapid growth of private universities in Anglophone sub-Saharan Africa as a result of globalization and its effect on society. He discusses the evolution of private higher education in the region and the influence of the university on other levels of education. The writer then proceeds to examine the growth of private universities and some of the challenges facing them, which relate to finance, staffing, and quality. The writer also examines national responses to the globalization of higher education, focusing on the adoption of market strategies for change and the formation of strategic partnerships to become more competitive.
