Abstract
Popular wisdom among software developers says that “CASE is
dead”. Front-end analysis and design tools appear to be relies of
the past, with today's excitement going to snazzy “visual
programming” development tools. Yet, CASE may revive again with
more flexible “metaCASE” tools. MetaCASE technology is now
surprisingly mature, and offers strong support of developers' local
methodologies and standard implementations of published methods. This
paper describes the overall metaCASE tool concept, compares some popular
commercially available offerings, and suggests how these tools will
impact software development
