Abstract
This paper describes the results of studies
on wind loading for the design of large-scale·
overhead transmission lines in Japan such as
studies on statistical considerations of strong
win<l records, investigations on fluctuation
characteristics of natural wind with respect to
time and space, and wind tunnel tests on various
types of steel towers and conductors.
The principal contents of the paper are as
follows:
- Basic thinking on wind load and design
procedures
- Dynamic wind pressure for design (basic design
wind speed, gust factor, relation between height
above ground and gust wind speed)
- Reduction in overhead wire wind pressure with
span length
- Wind force coefficient (for framework and wire)
