Abstract

Schelling segregation model has been proposed in economics to show that racial segregation may occur even in a very tolerant population where individuals are indifferent to the composition of their neighborhood, as long as it does not have a majority of the opposite type. We show that, in spite of the absence of an Hamiltonian, much progress can be made in understanding the dynamics of the model by drawing on concepts and results of statistical physics.
