Calibration of spray model constants for CFD-simulations of DI diesel engines using the representative interactive flamelet (RIF) model

Zusammenfassung

Results from an engine test bench and simulation by means of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are compared to study the influence of a parameter variation of start of fuel injection and spray angle. A methodology shows how the unknown spray model parameters are determined when no data from spray chamber experiments is available. Based on the pressure trace as response, a systematical search for a point in the parameter space spanned by the unknown spray model parameters leads to an optimum where the pressure trace, apparent heat release rate and pollutants are in a good agreement between experimental data and results from simulation.
