Thus, computing professional associations need a reliable system for effectively measuring factors that influence their membership. To that end, we describe the development of the Ideal Computing Professional Association Survey (ICPAS) and present the descriptive results and measures of reliability of the first major data collection (N=220) effort using ICPAS within the Association of Information Technology Professionals. The ICPAS incorporates seven domains related to individual membership in professional associations: career enhancing opportunities; information access and dissemination services; professional networking opportunities; communication services; leadership and community service opportunities; advocacy services and opportunities; and member discount services. Recommendations are made to national, regional, and chapter leadership in light of the results.
