Abstract

Public universities in Australia are facing more competition from an increasing number of private institutions offering degree and diploma courses. Glyn Davies, chair of the Group of Eight research-intensive universities, claims that if students begin to prefer private alternatives, higher education will follow that same path as the national shift to private elementary and high schools in Australia.
