Abstract
An attempt is undertaken to estimate technical
and economical features of UHVDC transmission line
with energy transport capacity equal or exceeding
that for modern long distance gas pipelines. Estrapolation
of existing experimental data for electrical
strength of long air gaps, some theoretical assessments
together with new experimental results
for durable behaviour of energized UHVDC transmission
line pole model allowed to find the design criteria
and main features of a 3000 kV d.c. transmission
line.
The experience of designing and manufacturing
the first prototype 1150 kV a.c. metal-clad substation
~rRYided an assessment for a 3000 kV d.c. metalclad
substation which shows attractive features of
multigigawatt HVDC transQi~sion lines for bulk energy
transport.
