The XETEX Companion — TEX meets OpenType and Unicode
work in progress edition, (January 2010)

This free booklet describes XETEX and its XELATEX variant. After an introduction to the OpenType and Unicode technologies, it describes how XETEX extends the TEX engine to optimally use OpenType fonts directly and allow you to handle Unicode-encoded sources. Various LATEX packages have been developed recently to take advantage of XETEX’s new functionalities, and those are described next. This compilation of tools has been written in close collaboration with the authors: Jonathan Kew (XETEX development), Will Robertson (fontspec and unicode-math), François Charette (arabxetex), and Dian Yin (zhspacing). Corrections and feedback has also been received from Adam Buchbinder, Leo Ferres, Rik Kabel, and Karel Píška.
