Caution: Since JabRef version 2.12, plugins are no longer supported in JabRef. So in newer versions the BibSonomy plugin is no longer working.
JabRef is an open source bibliography reference manager based on BibTeX format. JabRef can be connencted with BibSonomy by using a plugin that allows you to access your publications from BibSonomy directly in JabRef.

JabRef is an open source bibliography reference manager based on the BibTeX-format (like BibSonomy). Starting with version 2.4b1, JabRef can be extended using a plugin system based on the Java Plugin Framework (JPF). We have now built a BibSonomy plugin for JabRef that allows a user to directly access their publications from BibSonomy.

Download JabRef
To use the BibSonomy plugin, you need an older version of JabRef. You can find one on this page: http://www.oldfoss.com/JabRef.html
Choose a version that is older than 2.12, for example 2.10:
Download the suitable file for your operating system and execute it. JabRef will then be installed.
Download the BibSonomy plugin

Move the plugin jar file
Put the plugin jar file into a subfolder called Plugins in your JabRef installation directory.
Start JabRef
Start JabRef and you can start working with the Plugin!
Before you can start working with the plugin, you have to enter your BibSonomy username and your API key. Do the following steps:
Create a new database
Open JabRef and create a new database first. To do so, click on File and then on New database.
Open the plugin settings
In the menu, click on Plugins, then on BibSonomy and finally on Settings.
Enter your data
Enter your BibSonomy username and your API key. You can find your API key on the settings page in the tab "settings". To store the API key, select the checkbox Store API key. You can select all the other fields as you wish. Save your data by clicking on Save.
