memcached is a high-performance, distributed memory object caching system, generic in nature, but intended for use in speeding up dynamic web applications by alleviating database load.
A library for using Memcached as a second level distributed cache in Hibernate.
* Based on the excellent spymemcached client
* Includes support for the Whalin (danga) memcached client
* Supports entity and query caching.
* See the Configuration page
* See how easy it is to configure in Grails
Welcome to the newly open sourced SHOP.COM Cache System: sccache
What is it?
The SHOP.COM Cache System is an object cache system that...
* is an in-process cache and external, shared Cache
* is horizontally scalable
* stores cached objects to disk
* supports associative keys
* is non-transactional
* can have any size key and any size data
* does auto-GC based on TTL
* is container and platform neutral
In spite of the example working, transaction management is not working appropriately when it comes to both Hibernate and JBossCache participating of the same transaction. The reason is because at the time of writing this wiki, Hibernate did not allow to inject a JTA Transaction Manager which is not bound to JNDI. In the example, Hibernate creates a JDBC transaction and JBossCache a JTA transaction which are not linked together. To be able to make a Hibernate and JBossCache participant of the same JTA transaction in a standalone environment, customer code needs to be added to Hibernate to get around the JNDI/JTA coupling.
I did some research recently on memcached and how it compares to ehcache. The following graph shows the time taken for 10,000 puts, gets and removes, for 10,000 cache items. It uses the latest released versions of memcached and ehcache. In memcached's cas
