ESG needs to be adhered to both by large companies and smaller ones who supply to them or who export to the western economies where the government, investors as well as the general public is concerned about sustainability. Already companies have been asked by their buyer to give their compliance reports.
The manner of reporting, adherence to standards and avoidance of greenwashing is now an important thing and businesses need to start working towards their sustainability reporting. This webinar will cover ESG Reporting and how it needs to be approached.
The CANHEART ‘big data’ research initiative is aimed at measuring and improving cardiovascular health and the quality of ambulatory cardiovascular care provided in Ontario, Canada using the population-based CANHEART cohorts. The CANHEART cohorts were created through the linkage of 19+ routinely collected health administrative, vital statistics, survey and laboratory databases housed at ICES. The strength of these cohorts lies in the large sample size, containing information on 9.8 million Ontarians age 20-105 years, and diversity of the linked databases.
Building upon the insights gained to date through the CANHEART work, we have recently launched a new CANHEART SPOR project aimed at leveraging big data to conduct innovative cardiovascular clinical trials. We aim to: 1) undertake a pragmatic cluster randomized registry-based clinical trial to improve lipid-management amongst intermediate-and high-risk patients residing in high-risk health regions in Ontario (called CHOICES), and 2) develop novel algorithms for measuring clinical outcomes in clinical trials using health-related databases and compare whether they are as accurate as traditional event ascertainment methods in a prospective clinical trial (called INVESTED). These projects will be undertaken by an interdisciplinary team consisting of experts in administrative health databases, implementation science, clinical trials, knowledge translation and patient engagement.

Guided by the risk information-seeking and processing model, this study examines positive and negative affect separately in their influence on information-seeking intentions and avoidance through structural equation analyses. The highlight is that information avoidance seems to be driven by positive affect, while information seeking seems to be more heavily influenced by negative affect. Another interesting finding is that informational subjective norms are positively related to both seeking and avoidance, which suggests that one’s social environment has the potential to strongly influence the way he or she handles climate change information. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.
Researchers repeatedly discovered primary pharmaceutical contaminants, their metabolites, and transformation products in aquatic ecosystems. Body metabolism may not convert consumed pharmaceuticals to their metabolic elements before excretion. In this case, clinical and industrial wastes ensure their presence in the environment. Nevertheless, conventional wastewater treatment methods are ineffective for removing pharmaceutical wastes. Once in the ecosystem, they alter the physiological response of nontarget exposed aquatic and even terrestrial organisms due to induced toxicity.
IT involves the search for new opportunities through the introduction of new products into new markets. This kind of diversification strategy is one of the most risky and costly for company.
Five years ago, around Christmas 2012, I wrote an article about Cynefin, the sensemaking framework. I focused it on software development, because that was the main industry I worked in, and particularly focused on using it to work out which of our requirements were complex, so that we could embrace uncertainty and risk, and avoid…
If an organization really wants to empower its users, it needs a way to provide maximum power to the user with both safety and security. APIs allow you to design a solution that's not simply the average of these extremes, but rather provides 90% of the power with 99% of the security.

The consequences of the Japanese earthquake – especially the ongoing crisis at the Fukushima nuclear power plant – resonate grimly for observers of the American financial crash that precipitated the Great Recession. Both events provide stark lessons about risks, and about how badly markets and societies can manage them.

The number of swine flu cases is rising rapidly and experts are warning in the worst-case scenario 30% - or one in three of the UK population - could become infected and up to 65,000 people could die this winter. These sound like big, scary numbers, but what do they actually mean and how have they been calculated?
a self-regulating, unfiltered, non-hierarchical register, open to accredited researchers and analysists, of all apparent and competing risks to sustainability, where these can be backed up by evidence. Not a data-base in the simple sense, the main function is to allow authors to state, register and to promote any specific risk that they have identified in a summarised, common, accessible format, including proposed causal paths. The entry would link back to the authors own site or orginal papers.
In much of the world (but not in the U.S.,) drug-coated stents are avoided by cardiologists because of their high cost. To compensate for the inability to use these stents, many cardiologists outside of the U.S. have taken to administering sirolimus (also
In the Injury Theory, it's damage to the arterial endothelium, followed by platelet activation, then smooth muscle cell migration to injury, then macrophages, with resulting "foam cells." Engorged foam cells burst, starting the injury cycle all over again
it may no longer be enough to measure just HDL levels without determining levels of paroxonase and platelet-activating acetylhydrolase; levels of these enzymes may determine whether HDL is proinflammatory or protective. Likewise, measuring Lp(a) and small
