DBpedia is a community effort to extract structured information from Wikipedia and to make this information available on the Web. DBpedia allows you to ask sophisticated queries against Wikipedia, and to link other data sets on the Web to Wikipedia data.
In the German Wikipedia biographical records are enriched with data fields that contain name, date, place of birth and other metadata. Concept, history and usage of this Personendaten are explained and some experiences and statistics are shown. Personendaten and links to authority files are only one part of semantic information in Wikipedia. A vision of future enhancements is shown to illustrate Wikipedia's role in the Semantic Web.
