Self-Directed Recovery in Schizophrenia: Attending to Clients’ Agendas in Psychotherapy - ProQuest

Описание

Journal of Psychotherapy Integration (Jan 2, 2017). The recovery movement has challenged long-standing pessimism associated with the prospects for persons with schizophrenia and has identified self-direction as a central and necessary element in recovery and recovery-oriented treatment services. Despite important contributions in this regard, 1 concern is that the conditions and interventions that might best promote self-direction have not yet been fully addressed. In particular, there are some necessary conditions that enable self-direction as well as aspects of the experience of schizophrenia that may imperil these. The authors suggest a basic framework of key tasks for self-direction and identify 5 complicating factors that might imperil self-directed recovery. Following this, a potential role for psychotherapy in the promotion of self-directed recovery is posited, and the authors explore an integrative practice element of recovery-oriented psychotherapy intended to optimize self-direction and self-determination in the treatment of schizophrenia.
