On April 5, 1820, Gaspard-Félix Tournachon better known under his pseudonym Nadar, war born. He is considered to be one of the first grand masters of photography, besides being a caricaturist, a journalist, a novelist, and also a reknown balloonist.
On this day in 1996 the British Royal Air Force engineer officer Sir Frank Whittle passed away. He was best known for inventing the turbojet engine for which he received the knighthood in 1948.
