On 4 November 1869, the very first issue of the prominent interdisciplinary scientific journal 'Nature' was published. It is widely regarded as one of the few remaining academic journals that publish original research across a wide range of scientific fields and was ranked the world's most cited journal.
On April 30, 1777, German mathematician and physical scientist Carl Friedrich Gauß was born. He who contributed significantly to many fields, including number theory, algebra, statistics, analysis, differential geometry, geodesy, geophysics, electrostatics, astronomy and optics. He is often referred to as Princeps mathematicorum (Latin, "the Prince of Mathematicians") as well as "greatest mathematician since antiquity".
On November 19, 1807, British chemist and inventor Humphry Davy reports to the Royal Society about the isolation of potassium and sodium from different salts by electrolysis.
