The eXtensible Text Framework (XTF) is a powerful open source platform for providing access to digital content. Developed and maintained by the California Digital Library (CDL), XTF functions as the primary access technology for the CDL's digital collections and other digital projects worldwide.
This site serves as a repository for the NYU Digital Library Team's METS implementation development projects. At present a modest handful of XSLT-based page-turner and search implementations are freely available for use on an "as is" basis. In the pipeline are a java-based SMIL viewer, a java-based application and a perl-based application to extract a METS file from a database using NYU's zeroDB schema.
The Archivists’ Toolkit™, or the AT, is the first open source archival data management system to provide broad, integrated support for the management of archives. It is intended for a wide range of archival repositories. The main goals of the AT are to support archival processing and production of access instruments, promote data standardization, promote efficiency, and lower training costs.

The California Digital Library (CDL) is pleased to announce the availability of an extensive self-guided tutorial for its eXtensible Text Framework (XTF) application (http://xtf.wiki.sourceforge.net/). XTF is an open source, highly customizable piece of software supporting the search, browse, and display of heterogeneous digital content and offering efficient and practical methods for creating customized end-user interfaces for distinct digital collections. The tutorial provides guidance for implementing and customizing XTF, from core functionality to overall look and feel. eXist-db is an open source database management system entirely built on XML technology. It stores XML data according to the XML data model and features efficient, index-based XQuery processing.
We follow the MODS schema and therefore a web-based MODS editor was built to create MODS XML records. These records are deposited into the eXist native XML database where they can be accessed via a REST API.
METS Navigator is a METS-based system developed by the Indiana University Digital Library Program for displaying and navigating sets of page images or other multi-part digital objects. METS, the Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard, is an XML standard, maintained by the Library of Congress, for managing and describing digital library objects. Using the information in the METS <structMap> elements, METS Navigator builds a hierarchical menu that allows users to navigate to specific sections of a document, such as title page, specific chapters, illustrations, etc. METS Navigator also allows simple navigation to the next, previous, first, and last page image or component part of a digital object.
Fez, a flexible, digital repository and workflow management system, was released in November 2005 by UQ staff under open source license. The site for downloading software and keeping on top of software development is http://sourceforge.net/projects/fez/. The Fez software is PHP- and MySQL-based and works as a front-end and administration tool using Fedora (http://www.fedora.info/), an excellent tool for managing objects and the relationships between them. In a Fedora repository, objects can be communities, collections, and records. Records can belong to both collections and communities.
