Abstract

Modeling and simulation are increasingly emerging as efficient techniques for the optimization and utilization of existing potentials of business processes. Especially in the area of product development, today's business environments are changing faster than ever before. A permanent and apace optimization of these processes is essential for enterprises of every branch to ensure a competitive position. This paper introduces C3 as a modeling method, especially designed to map weakly structured cooperative work processes, like product design processes often are. Additionally, a transparently and accurately structured transformation of the process structure model into a simulation model is demonstrated. As a result, the process of optimization can be shortened and simplified by reducing the specified analysis steps. The paper also aims at highlighting the main points of the discussion about certain influencing parameters, which are critical for process improvements because of their effect on particularly the duration and quality of the development process. Therefore, it provides answers to some calls for pluralistic and multidisciplinary modeling approaches.
