Plans for private colleges on hold

.
Times Higher Education Supplement, (2007)

Abstract

The article reports on the decision of Israel's Council for Higher Education (CHE) to delay the opening of private colleges due to objections of public universities. According to CHE deputy chairman Yehezkel Teller, the decision is caused by strong political and academic pressure. The CHE received application for permits from 11 colleges that seek recognition as Israeli institutions. Public universities which feel threatened by private colleges argue that the latter does not meet the required criteria.
