La traducción de culturemas en el ámbito del patrimonio cultural: Análisis de folletos turísticos de la región de murcia

Abstract

The presence of culturemes (cultural terms) is one of the main difficulties that the translators of tourist texts must face. These terms come from different areas of a culture and find their nexus in tourist brochures. One area that even since Nida (1945) has been the object of classifications is that of the material culture, also called field of cultural heritage (Molina Mart\'ınez, 2001). This study aims precisely to observe, contrast and analyze the translation into English of culturemes within the scope of the cultural heritage (architectural works, agricultural techniques, emblematic places, festivities, musical instruments and traditional costumes), present in some tourist brochures of the Region of Murcia in order to reveal which strategies are used in the translation of such terms. Thus, we will be able to get even closer to the tourist translation as specialized translation and improve the quality of its texts. After analyzing the results, we realize that translation by means of the coined equivalent and description are, without any doubt, the dominant strategies, but not the only ones. This leads us to reflect on such diversity of translation strategies in connection with the culturemes belonging to the field of cultural heritage.
