Abstract
Due the free software production explosion, thousands of systems developers
around the world are concern about organizing themselves in communities
which centralize and facilitate the exchange of information related
to the software production. This theme has been studied at various
names as collective invention, gift economy, etc. In Brazil, although
the discussion about free/open source software has getting wider,
initiatives that promote the community�s development haven�t reached
proportions that allow the massive participation of the developers.
This article analyses, at the perspective of the information flow
and knowledge creation, the success of the american model for this
communities, evaluating its impact in the Brazilian context and proposing
adaptations
