: One of the overlooked facilitating factors of recurrent knee pain due to osteoarthritis is the periarticular muscle latency (M1, M2, and M3). It leads to a lack of muscle protection against the external loads on the knee during the initiation of every knee movement. This creates multiple repetitive micro-traumas, gradually accumulating to degeneration and osteoarthritis.
The only way to overtake the periarticular muscle latency and its consequences is the preliminary quadriceps muscle contraction
