The authors studied the histology of antigravitational spastic muscles, which are different from the nonspastic muscles. The study established that they have no endomysial fibres and that their inelasticity and inextensibility is due to syncytial atrophy. This is in conformity with clinical findings and calls for further research into the ultrastructural nature of the muscle so that treatment can be based on a more complete understanding of the disease and not solely on clinical observations.
