Results of field trials of promising galloping
control devices in Canada, the Urrited States and
Europe are presented. Several methods of interpreting
these results to provide clear indications
of overall effectiveness are discussed. These
analyses show that there is a significant reduction
in galloping amplitude from detuning pendulums on
single and bundle conductors and aerodynamic drag
dampers and interphase spacers on single conductors.
nashover rates derived from these galloping
amplitudes are used in economic analyses of adding
galloping controls to existing lines, to new lines
and to lines being upgraded.
