Abstract

Based on NEPS-data (N = 8,755), this study analyzed the effect of students’ social backgrounds on their intention to study for a master’s degree. We applied multilevel regression with students grouped by subject and college type, while taking into account student variables. The study indicates that students' social background does have an effect. The findings also suggest that this effect is linked to which form of higher education students have chosen.
