Abstract

Handbook for writing the Italian Sign Language (LIS) with SignWriting The manual was created as a didactic tool to support the teaching and self-learning of SignWriting (SW) - the writing system for Sign Languages developed by Valerie Sutton in the '70s - and is the adaptation to the Italian Sign Language (LIS) of “Lessons in SignWriting: workbook & textbook” (Sutton 1995, ed. DAC, La Jolla CA), originally designed for the American Sign Language (ASL). The manual presents lessons and self-assessment exercises for the learner, as well as texts in SW to practice reading.
