Strategic nonviolent conflict : the dynamics of people power in the twentieth century

, and . Praeger, Westport, Conn., (1994)

Abstract

"The post-Cold War world has witnessed an alarming increase in violent conflict. Strategic Non-violent Conflict offers realistic alternatives to military force. This is not a pie-in-the-sky book of wishful thinking or a paean to peace. Rather, it is a solid, "extraordinarily lucid and original" work that "is bound to help make history."" Äckerman and Kruegler analyze six twentieth-century examples of non-violent campaigns: the early Russian revolution of 1904-1906; the German Ruhrkampf of 1923; the Indian independence movement in 1930-1931; the 1940-1945 occupation and resistance in Denmark; the 1944 civic strike in El Salvador; and the Polish Solidarity movement in 1980-1981." Üsing those examples they delineate 12 strategic principles that form the foundation - and enhance the prospects of success - for nonviolent campaigns."--BOOK JACKET.
