The introduction of optical fibres in rural areas requires a fast, simple and cost effective installation to bring
the optical system in a cost-effective range. For this the possibility exist to use existing routes from railway and
power utilities to install the optical fibre cable •.
The construction, Installation and jointing of optical fibre cables along railway tracks. railway electrification
lines and high tension power lines are describi?d. hll cable constructions are based on th~ loose tube concept Wiler~
the fibres (one or more) are Inserted In tubes which are jelly filled. lhese tubes. give the fibres. when Properly
stranded around a central element, the required operational range without any force and therefore no chan~e in
transmission characteristics. • .
Results of installed links show that these links can be operated with the same availability as duct or burled cable
routes.
