The analytical expressions of exergy transfer units number are derived, and the relationship between exergy transfer effectiveness and exergy/heat transfer units number is further established. The impacts of heat transfer units number, the ratio of heat capacity of cold fluids to that of hot fluids and flow patterns on exergy transfer units number, as well as the dependence of exergy transfer units number on exergy transfer effectiveness, are systematically discussed.
