I was especially interested in how they extract "their [peoples] research interests, etc.". But in their demo they state that "topics are created by domain experts". I don't think that this is an acceptable solution. I also disagree in their assumption that "working group corresponds to a research topic". Usually the truth is fine grained [ever struggled with controlled vocabulary?] and documents/people/groups have a mixture of topics. --- content syndication --- information extraction with lixto focuses on web pages as input (for automatic processing) additional manual data / data cleansing required focuses on web browser as a front-end. Mainly work with textual data. Application is combining several (heterogeneous) content sources.
