Abstract

This SAB-90 paper describes the recently developed 'genetic programming' paradigm which genetically breeds populations of computer programs to solve problems. In genetic programming, the individuals in the population are hierarchical computer programs of various sizes and shapes. This paper also extends the genetic programming paradigm to a 'co-evolution' algorithm which operates simultaneously on two populations of independently-acting hierarchical computer programs of various sizes and shapes.
