In genetic programming, the individuals in the population are hierarchical computer programs of various sizes and shapes. This paper also extends the genetic programming paradigm to a 'co-evolution' algorithm which operates simultaneously on two populations of independently-acting hierarchical computer programs of various sizes and shapes.
