Abstract

Selective reflection from sodium vapour has been measured near the D1 and D2 resonance lines. Spectral narrowing of the selective reflection, previously inferred by Cojan, is clearly demonstrated and measured as a function of the sodium density and of the angle of incidence. The narrowing is ascribed to wall collisions of the sodium atoms.
