Abstract

We present a test of an overrelaxed Monte Carlo algorithm for SU (3) which alternates heat bath with exact microcanonical updating sweeps. The test is performed by studying the long range correlations between consecutive configurations of a physical quantity, i.e. the correlation of Polyakov loops. The overrelaxed algorithm performs definitely better than a simple heat bath (Cabibbo-Marinari algorithm) on such an extended quantity. Instead, on a local quantity like the energy a similar test would lead to equivalent results.
