Abstract

MR Let a sample of size n be drawn from a population and let the sample values be arranged in increasing order of magnitude. Corresponding definitions hold for samples from multidimensional populations. This address contains a useful expository account of the sampling theory of order statistics and their applications to various problems of statistical estimation and testing of statistical hypotheses, in the case when the population distribution function is continuous.
