«Dialogue interpreting includes what is variously referred to in English as Community, Public Service, Liaison, Ad Hoc or Bilateral Interpreting – the defining characteristic being interpreter-mediated communication in spontaneous face-to-face interaction» (Mason 1999: 147). In this paper, interpreter-mediated encounters will be analysed from a dialogical point of view, which stresses that communication and miscommunication is a joint product and that all the participants involved in an encounter share some degree of responsibility for it
