description = {This position paper describes the problem of how to validate proposed metrics for AOP. This validation has to be done both empirically as well as theoretically. Up until now, proposed metrics for AOP sometimes have a theoretical validation and rarely a empirical validation. Great care is therefore needed in taking these metrics for granted.
Also, an overview is given of the several groups of metrics that are proposed. These groups are: separation of concern metrics, coupling metrics, cohesion metrics and size metrics. For each group, references are given for their definition and they are shortly compared.
The conclusion is that there is progress in defining apparently useful metrics. However, a planning is needed to set-up experiments to provide empirical data and validation for these metrics. Results of these experiments can provide a better understanding of their usefulness.},
