Abstract
In her memoir, dictated during the last years of her life, Lotte Eisner recalls with a certain pride a high point of her work as collector and archivist at the Cinémathèque française.At the time when I began collecting, film culture was still in pieces as a result of the war and there was absolutely no understanding of it in West Germany … Consequently, designers and architects, who, I think, are as important as the director, were forgotten … Thus, I drove around with a good conscience and I restored the reputation of old sketches and pieces of sets from what had become a disregarded art.1
