Abstract
This paper outlines the process of designing and developing an Information Technology Support System for an Occupational Therapy Department in a child and adolescent mental health clinic. The philosophy and values that Occupational Therapy holds within the healthcare environment were key design issues for the system. The support system design was implemented a stage further with the development of two prototype systems: a clinical record system and an intelligent tool to suggest activities, advice and ideas for clients. Evaluation of the information technology support system design and the development of prototype systems proved that the possibility of the conception of a fully functioning Occupational Therapy system could become reality. Future work and research into Occupational Therapy and health care informatics is essential to ensure continued developments in the area.
