Abstract

Latent-reactive polyurethane dispersions (PUD) can be used to prepare latent-reactive pre-coatings or adhesive films. These show a good storage stability, comparable to commonly used 2-component systems. The adhesion properties of latent-reactive adhesives are equal to the properties of 2-component adhesives. The end-user has just to make sure that bonding temperature and pressure conditions of the bonding step are within the required limits. By using this adhesive technology application limitations can be eliminated. Goals are: no dosage and mixing mistakes, no pot-life, no open time, less cleaning of the application equipment, pre-application is possible, storable pre-coated substrates, less waste, reduced 'over-spray', comparable performance of the bonding to 2-component systems, no drying of dispersion while using adhesive films, chronological and local separation of adhesive application and lamination process possible. The formulations of the latent-reactive PUD for industrial applications have to be adapted to the individual requirements. Over all, simplification of the lamination process steps leads to time, waste and cost reduction for manufactures
