Abstract

A novel 'optically clocked' 3R regenerator (OC-3R) preserving the data wavelength and logic is presented. It is based on two compact semiconductor components, avoiding expensive and bulky EDFAs. The excellent system performance is demonstrated by eye analysis and BER measurements at 40 Gbit/s displaying a -3.5 dB negative penalty for strongly degraded signals.
