WordNet, FrameNet and Other Semantic Networks in the International Journal of Lexicography - The Net Result?

Abstract

1988: Launch of the first issue of the International Journal of Lexicography (IJL). Twenty-five years later, at a time when the word ‘network’ is on everybody’s lips (think of Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and other social networks), it may be useful to examine to what extent IJL has adequately dealt with a specific type of network that is dear to the hearts of linguists and lexicographers, namely ‘semantic networks’. This paper also tries to assess the impact of the various networks, described in IJL issues over the last 25 years, upon dictionaries and lexicography.
