Abstract

About 95\% of all data transmission consists of blanks, strings of spaces, numeric and alphabetic repetitions, not only buzzing through the airways but also embedded in a large number of data bases. In this book the author shows how to increase the efficiency and cut the cost of data transmission and storage through the application of practical data compression routines. Also included are IBM PC programs and routines to compress and decompress data and to analyze the susceptibility of data to compression.
