Abstract

Journal abstract: Use of virtual teams is growing in companies with global operations. The distance that separates team members makes leadership more important yet more challenging. This article describes some of the special leadership needs of virtual teams that are comprised of members spread around the globe. The analysis and recommendations are based on interviews with scores of managers throughout Asia Pacific and Europe. Principles taken from Taoism, one of the oldest philosophies in China, are used to highlight leadership needs of virtual teams.
