Abstract
This volume is the first outcome of our efforts in publishing the rock paintings of the Upper Brandberg in a series of monographs following that concept. It is based on the same idea that had led Pager' s pencil when tracing more than 43,000 single figures at 879 rock art sites in the Upper Brandberg, namely the conviction that it is complete and exact documentation that constitutes the prerequisite for any kind of interpretation. Besides the reproduction of Harald Pager’s rock art documentation in the Amis Gorge the books comprises an introduction into the environmental setting of the Brandberg and results from archaeological excavations by Peter Breunig, an introduction about observations on the selection of painted spots by Harald Pager, and an introduction about the rock art documentation by Tilman Lenssen-Erz.
