Abstract

Image data hiding provides an out-band channel to a sender to deliver secret data to a designated receiver without other entities being aware. Its application varies from medical use to military application. The criteria for a good image data hiding algorithm are imperceptible to non-authenticated entities and high capacity for carrying secret data. The first criterion is more significant if the application is about military or espionage. LSB substitution algorithm is the simplest scheme to hide message in a host image. It replaces the least significant bit (LSB) of each pixel with the encrypted message bit stream. Authenticated receivers can extract the message by deciphering the LSB of every pixel of the host image with a pre-shared key. Since only the least significant bit of pixels is altered, it is visually imperceptible by human. The capacity of the algorithm is 1 bit per pixel.
