Based on nearly 3000 days of simultaneous hourly horizontal global and normal beam radiation data for Bet Dagan, Israel, utilizability curves based on daily total radiation are found to be a good approximation to the corresponding curves for individual hour pairs, and the random nature of fluctuations in radiation about clear day values can be observed. A model which treats insolation as a stochastic variable is shown to provide accurate predictions of daily utilizability curves.
