Abstract
Fifty biotechnology, pharma-ceutical and computer companies will announce an ambitious plan today to end the chaos and confusion caused by incompatible data systems, as they gear up to exploit the torrents of biological information flowing from the completion of the Human Genome Project. The new consortium - to be launched at the BIO 2001 conference in San Diego - will enable researchers to exchange and manipulate data from hundreds of different sources over the internet.
