Abstract
This paper describes the development and use of computer-based games for teaching and learning of some aspects of civil engineering and construction management. It does not consider the traditional, sometimes called technical aspects of engineering although many of the lessons learned could be applied to them. It is based on over ten years of experience in the development and use of games for undergraduate and post-graduate education and for industrial in-service training. The main countries considered are the Netherlands, Australia and England although some experience in other countries will be discussed. The paper draws on experience rather than on scientific measurements of outcomes. It is therefore, to some extent, a case-study paper.
