Immer mehr Rechercheoberflächen erheben den Anspruch ein Discovery-System zu sein und den klassischen OPAC als das Rechercheinstrument für Bibliotheksnutzer ersetzen zu können. Dieser Anspruch legt einen Vergleich zwischen klassischen OPAC und Discovery-System nahe. Um diese System beurteilen zu können, werden die grundverschiedenen Suchparadigmen beider Systeme und die primären Zielgruppen genauer betrachtet. Ergänzend wird untersucht, welche Voraussetzungen hinsichtlich Infrastruktur und Datenangeboten in Bibliotheken gegeben sein, um Discovery-Systeme erfolgreich betreiben zu können..
